EU Regulation 2015/1185 concerning ecodesign requirements for solid fuel local space heaters (hereinafter referred to as the "wood-burning stove regulation")

On January 1, 2022, new EU regulations came into force for solid fuel local space heaters with a rated heat output of 50 kW or less. Space heaters include wood-burning stoves, open fireplaces, fireplace inserts, pellet stoves, pellet burners (including pellet boilers), masonry heaters, tiled stoves, and wood cookstoves.
Wood-burning Stove Regulation and Wood-burning Stove Order
- As of January 1, 2022, 2015/1185 enters into force in EU member states.
- The wood-burning stove regulation has immediate legal effect in Denmark.
- The provisions of the wood-burning stove regulation have legal effect from January 1, 2022, even if the revised wood-burning stove order only becomes available later in 2022.
Space heaters placed on the market from January 1, 2022, and later
The current Danish limit values and certificate requirements will be repealed for space heaters of 0-50 kW that are placed on the market or first put into service on or after January 1, 2022.
The current rules for space heaters of 50 kW or less will be replaced by the provisions of the wood-burning stove regulation, which apply to individual products when they are placed on the market or first put into service.
Space heaters above 50 kW and up to 1,000 kW, placed on the market or first put into service on or after January 1, 2022, are still regulated by the wood-burning stove order.
